Erasmus Student Network Amsterdam is a student-run non-profit organization dedicated to helping international students studying at the Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA) and Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) make the most of their stay in the Netherlands. ESN is an organization with 540 sections in 42 countries that makes sure you are going to have the time of your life studying abroad.
ESN Amsterdam aims to help foster student mobility by optimizing the social and cultural integration of international students in Amsterdam. We try to achieve this by organizing introduction days, parties, weekend trips, excursions and other cultural activities. We also promote contact with Dutch students through our buddy and coach system. ESN Amsterdam is in part funded by the UvA and AUAS. This collaboration with the universities enables us to offer low-priced activities to students. Members of the UvA and AUAS also provide the organization with supervision and support.
Every year about 2500 international students join ESN Amsterdam. Not only for the reasons mentioned above, but also because it’s the best way to meet fellow international students studying in Amsterdam. Mission and Goals
Erasmus Student Network Amsterdam, formerly known as International Student Network (ISN) Amsterdam, is a student-run organization founded in 1997, dedicated to helping international students who study at the University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences to make the most out of their stay in the Netherlands. ESN also facilitates self-development for all students who wish to gain experience in running and supporting a student organization.
We help international students build up a social network; find their way in a new city, and stimulate the Dutch and other cultures’ experiences by organizing a wide range of social and cultural activities. ESN supports the integration of international students in a network of locals and internationals alike and firmly believes that this is an essential part of experiencing student life abroad. We aim to be a source of information on topics concerning living and studying in Amsterdam. Concerning ourselves with the continuous delivery of value to an ever growing network of students.

Meet the CommitteEs
Hi! My name is Haris Awan and I’m a third year student at the AUAS where I study International Business. After finishing the minor International Finance and Control, it became apparent that I wanted to be an auditor where I could meet new people from all over the world. This is why I joined ISN Amsterdam and the Auditor Committee. I’m born and raised in Amsterdam, while my parents are from Pakistan. In my free time, I participate in all kinds of sports such as powerlifting, running, and football. I’m thrilled to be part of ISN and positively impact this organization.
Hoi! My name is Susan.
I am 21 years old and a second-year student of Business Administration at UvA.
I’m from Taiwan, a country full of amazing food.
When I first came to Europe alone, ISN supported me a lot and made me feel at home. So, it’s always been my goal to help international students to feel as if they were home in Amsterdam.
And yes, here I am! As an audit committee of ISN.
Hope you enjoy life in the Netherlands!”
My name is Loulou, I am a Dutch 24-years-old student who is born and raised in Amsterdam. Last year I finished my bachelor’s in philosophy and this year I completed the Business Administration Premaster. Right now, I am doing an internship at Bier&cO, which is a company that focuses on special beers. It is amazing ;).
My motivation to join ISN was mainly because after my own exchange before COVID-19, I came to the conclusion that I actually only met other exchange students and almost no real inhabitants of the country. Therefore, through ISN, I would like to give the exchange students that come to Amsterdam that thing what I missed so much: a buddy from the city!
Eighteen years filled with joy, challenges, and remarkable people have passed by and, fortunately, it is only the beginning! My name is Anamaria Mihaescu and I am a first-year student in Communication Science. I am from Romania, but my dreams and a one-way plane ticket have brought me to the wonderful Amsterdam. I am an outgoing person, who easily falls in love with books, music, and people’s smiles. Being always excited about new adventures and meeting souls from all around the globe, I could not help myself but sign up for ISN. I am looking forward to helping international students integrate and feel at home in this beautiful country. Hopefully, we will have the time of our lives together!
Hey! I’m Neelanti, a 20 y/o currently studying Economics and Business Economics at the UvA. Born in India but raised in Singapore, Hong Kong and Netherlands. Growing up in different countries, I have come across some amazing people and gained unique experiences. My love for meeting new people and learning new languages is what led me to join ISN. I’m delighted to be part of the Buddy Committee and looking forward to help you settle down in quirky, bustling Amsterdam – I’ve been calling home for past 6 years. If it’s sunny outside you’ll mostly find me sitting by the canals or wandering the 9 streets of Amsterdam. So, feel free to plop down for a chat if you spot me!
Hi there! My name is Nenita Heppener and I am 23 y/o. At the moment I’m finishing my last year of International Business and Languages at HvA. Last year I went on exchange to Mexico-City and genuinely enjoyed meeting students from all over the world. Together with my half Chilean/Dutch origin I’m always open to socializing and learning from people all over the world which led me to apply at ISN. The Buddy Committee gives me the opportunity to keep doing this. Mexico really showed me lots of nice things and I cannot wait to show you guys how much fun tequila is (;
Heehoi! I’m Bas, a 25 year old Dutch student who has been studying in Amsterdam for 6 years now. Right now I’m currently finishing Communication Science while I still feel like I haven’t even explored 50 percent of the city yet. When I came to Amsterdam for the first time I really didn’t know how to get around here, even as a Dutchie. Now because I’ve gotten to know the city and it’s ways better, I want to help out others to find their way here in a way many great folks here helped me out. In my free time when I’m not hanging out at SSRA, my student association, I love to go to the cinema a lot while writing about the movies I watched and filling the photo library in my phone with memes I probably never gonna use (but you never know!).
Hi! My name is Celine. I am 24 years old and am following the MSc Business Administration: Consumer Marketing at the UvA. I am from Limburg, a beautiful region in the South of the Netherlands, so next to getting you acquainted with Dutch cuture, I can (and definitely will) also tell you more about the slightly different culture over there. I studied and worked several times abroad myself, in Paris, Madrid and Málaga. I had such wonderful experiences and made friends from all around the world. My local friends were so kind to show me around and teach me their culture. Now, I am looking forward to be that person for you! Hope to see you soon!
My name is Nynotte. I am a 20-year-old Creative Business student living in Amsterdam. My dad was born in Surinam so besides showing you the Dutch culture I can also tell you more about my second culture. I love media and pop culture so I will probably talk your ears off about tiktok trends and Kardashian family feuds. Besides pop culture I also like to go places. I love to go to the zoo, visit a museum or watch a movie. I love to cook but I am terrible at it. Please give me a call if you have a good recipe from your home country! I am looking forward to meeting everyone and learn all about everyone’s culture.
Hello everyone! My name is Anamaria Mihaescu and I am an 18-year-old student in Communication Science. What do I like? This is a terrifying question for someone who loves everything about the world. I am originally from Romania, and as an international student, I have decided to help others discover the wonders of Amsterdam. What better place could that be other than ISN? I am here to make memorable memories, to have fun, to meet people from all around the world, and, most importantly, to better myself. I hope we will have lots of fun on this journey together. Let’s not wait another minute and get this party started!
Hello, world! My name is Iulia and I come from Romania. I am 20 years old and a second-year student of International Business. From this year on, I’m also part of the International Culture committee. My interests vary from art to psychology to intercultural communication. I also enjoy getting to know people and hearing good jokes! I believe ISN is the place for that!
My name is Francesca, and I am part of the International Culture Committee. I’m 23 and I am doing my Masters’ degree in Accountancy. I am Italian but I have been living in Amsterdam for the past six months and, all lockdowns aside, I am absolutely in love with this city! I come from the city of Turin, where I lived most of my life, but I have also spent half a year at the University of Eastern Finland for an exchange.
If there is something you need to know about me is that I love art and traveling. I adore both making and learning about arts, especially digital painting and writing, and I hope one day I will be able to publish a novel illustrated by yours truly. My other hobby is traveling I have been around pretty much most of Europe and I cannot wait to get back on the road. The reason I love to travel is that I love to learn about new cultures, to try new foods and to meet new people. This is also why I joined ISN in the first place! I also love nature, but I’m not much of a hiker, but at least I know an overwhelming amount of fun facts about animals, so if, for some reasons, you want to know more about dolphins’ social habits, koalas’ digestive patterns or what a platypus’ tail is for, then I am your gal.
Hey everyone! I’m Ryan, a 20-year-old Taiwanese studying media and culture in UvA! I love dancing and exploring media production. Most importantly, I want to share Taiwanese culture to international students in the ISN community, so I become a member of the international committee. As a first-year student, I am looking forward to knowing interesting people in Amsterdam. Let’s hang out and create unforgettable memories together! :))
Hey! My name is Anastasiia. I‘m 18 years old and I come from Ukraine. Currently, I’m in my second year of International Business in HvA. Apart from studies I spend my time dancing, reading non-fiction books, hanging out with my friends (which unfortunately is not possible lately) and enjoying Amsterdam. I‘m happy to be a part of ISN committee, because it’s a wonderful way to contribute to something great while making friends and developing new skills I hope this study year will be amazing and still exciting for you despite any circumstances!
Heya! Name‘s Sandro and I am a first year student of the Master programme Software Engineering at University of Amsterdam. I come from Italy, having lived most of my life between the rural areas of the north-west and the city of Turin. Being half dutch as well, I’m really happy to be in the Netherlands now and I cannot wait to meet as many of you as I can. I am really excited to be part of the IT committee and do my best to improve out digital platforms. I am really passionate about Computer Science, but I also love cooking and music! I wish you all a great year!
Hey! My name is Alexia Villanueva and I’m in my first year of Business Administration at the UvA. I’m currently in Peru but I can’t wait to move to Amsterdam and live the full university experience. I heard amazing things about the ISN and how they bring students from all over the world together with activities and events that will make your experience in Amsterdam unique. I’m so excited to be part of this committee and help students with discounts they will find interesting and useful during their stay in Amsterdam. I hope to see you all soon!
Hi everyone! My name is Leentje,18 years old and currently in my first year of Political Science at the UvA. I’ve lived in Jakarta for a few years, have lived in Leiden for almost my whole life, and recently moved to Amsterdam. With my mom being Filipino and my dad being Dutch, I got to enjoy different cultures growing up, and have always loved to be involved in an international atmosphere. Hence, I found ISN a great opportunity to experience this on a more professional level, whilst getting to know people from all kinds of cultures and countries. I joined this partnership committee in particular because of the interesting challenges it faces and, of course, to get the best deals as possible for you guys! Hope this short introduction gave a good first impression of me and if you have any questions regarding the Netherlands, Uva or anything else you might be curious about, don’t be shy to ask me, I would love to help out.
Hola! I am Domiziana, a 23 years old Italian student currently finishing the third year of Business Administration at the Uva.
I came to Amsterdam when I was 19 and I remember feeling so lost in a new city. I wish I knew about this organization back then! This is why I joined ISN, to help other students feel at home and enjoy Amsterdam to the fullest. It is such a nice city to live in: the vibes, the colours, the people..in the end you will even love the rain and the cold!
When I am not studying or working you can find me doing all kinds of sports, drawing and having fun with friends!
Hit me up if you have some questions!
I’ll be happy to help you

I believe in the power of social media to deliver information and bring people together over common causes. Joining ISN would help me get the skills and experiences required for PR and Graphics and on top of that what really excites me is that I get to work with a dynamic team that comes from all across the globe. As a strong believer of words and stories, I look forward to combining them in interesting ways and meeting new people on this journey.
Hey, I‘m Vivian and I’m a 21-year-old Media & Information student at the UvA. I love to do any kind of creative work, but producing videos really got me. This is the second year that I‘m working with ISN and I really enjoyed everything, especially because I’m able to grow as a person and develop my skills. Coming from Germany, but growing up in a Russian family and now living in the Netherlands, I was able to experience different cultures and making friends from all over the world. The PR and graphics committee of ISN definitely gave me opportunity to express such interest. Will be sharing more info about Amsterdam in the future, stay tuned!
Hi, I’m James – I’m 20 and am studying Econometrics at the UvA, having moved to Amsterdam in Sep 2019. My parents are both from China / Hong Kong, however I was born and raised in the UK. Prior to moving to the Netherlands, I took a gap year which I spent working in London and travelling. Whilst I continue settling into Dutch lifestyle, I enjoy spending free time outdoors and playing the piano. This year, I also started a blog where I share my current experiences and the time during my gap year.
Hello, my name is Sol Cristina (Sol) and I am a member of the Reporter Committee. I am currently a first-year Economics and Business Economics student at the UvA. Although I was born in Peru, I have lived most of my life in the Netherlands in a small town called ‘Heerhugowaard’ – but travelling is a big passion of mine, so I have travelled to quite a lot of places. My other interests are: writing, dancing, and gaming. I will be looking forward to telling you the most useful tips and exciting stories as well as giving you updates on ISN and (student) life in Amsterdam together with fellow members!
I am a 23-year old born and raised in India. I recently graduated with a Bachelor in Arts (Economics, Politics and Sociology) with some work experience in Advertising and Research. I am currently enrolled at UvA for a Pre-Masters in Communication Sciences. I am a self–driven individual who seeks to make a positive impact in the social sector and have been an active volunteer in various social initiatives back home. Being part of ISN does not only give me a sense of belonging in a big new city, but it also gives me an opportunity to meet some of the most interesting people from around the World. I am also thrilled to be a member of the Social Erasmus Committee for giving me a platform to do what I am passionate about most, Social Service, and am looking forward to helping them make a perceptible change in the social realm.
Hi! My name is Aylin, I’m Turkish and Portuguese. I’m 20 years old and currently I’m in my third year of studying Business Administration at UvA. Recently, I finished a minor in Communication Science. I’m very excited to be a part of ISN, since I really like to get to know people from different backgrounds and get involved in events, such as community involvement projects. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, visiting museums, doing sports, drawing, playing the piano and walking around the canals of Amsterdam. Hello there. My name is David Arnstedt. I’m a 21-year-old international student from Sweden. I came to Amsterdam last year to study Political Science. Previously, I’ve worked as a teacher and Military Police. My hobbies include jumping out of airplanes and playing saxophone (although not at the same time). I’m also severely into to politics. Thankfully, running has become an essential antidote to an otherwise chaotic world. I joined ISN to submerge into multiculturalism and build bridges between the national and international. A desire to make a positive societal impact led me to the Social Erasmus Committee. And here I am. Wave if you see me running around!
Hey everyone! My name is Teresa and I am 24 years old. I am born and raised in Portugal, but over the past 5 years I have been studying abroad, in Denmark and in the USA. Currently, I’m in Amsterdam and I am following the MSc in Business Administration at the UvA. As an international student myself, I know how important it is to get involved in activities, get together with other students, and build your network in a new country. I believe that, being part of ISN, will allow me to help other students at the same time that I learn from them, and will also give me the chance to meet people from different backgrounds. Hopefully, the pandemic will allow us to organize physical events, but in the meantime, let’s try to make the most of all the activities that ISN organizes for us!
Hi, my name is Tudor. I was born in Romania, I’m currently 21 and I am in my 3rd year studying Business Administration at UvA. I wanted to be a part of ISN’s Sports Committee because it stands for one of my biggest passions since I was a child. Sports have always been a part of my life in some form and I consider them as not only important for our physical health, but also a good way to interact with people, find common interests and make friends. Joining ISN has given me the opportunity to help bring the student community closer together, all while doing something healthy and fun!
