What is a Museum Card?

A Museum Card is a pass which allows you to enter into approximately 400 museums across the Netherlands. Once you buy a Museum Card, it will be valid for 12 months and you can simply show your card to the ticket office to enter for free or at a discounted price.

How do I create a Museum Card?

You can simply go to any museum in which the Museum Card applies and directly purchase a temporary card at the ticket office. As the 12-month Museum Card is only available for Dutch residents, your address will be required for the card purchase. It is also possible to order the Museum Card online, but you may only pay via iDeal (i.e. no foreign credit cards). As of 2019, the Museum Card costs 64.9 euros for first-time purchasers.
You will then have to register the temporary card online via this website: https://www.museumkaart.nl. The website is currently only available in Dutch; we advise you to use an online translator (most of the steps are not difficult to figure out). Please click the tab “Registreren” on the top right to start the registration process.
Once you have completed the online registration, the physical version of your Museum Card will be delivered via post to your registered address within 5 working days. You may still use your temporary card to enter into a maximum of 5 museums before your card arrives.
